About 4 weeks ago we purchased our chicks. We had plans to convert our barn shed into a coop..until we discovered the roaches in the shed (gross) coops are very expensive and I'm afraid we have to give up our girls. I was wondering if anyone would like to have them! Free of charge I just want them to go to a loving home!

Yes, they will eat any thing that move bugs, mice, one of my chickens ate a snake a few days ago.

You can convert a number of things into a coop, too. A friend of mine put those plastic igloo dog houses into a "dog run" and just let her hens out to roam when she was home. It depends on your location/environment, I'm sure -- being in the South means heat and humidity and not much worry for cold.

I, personally, just had a mother-daughter project with my Mom to build my coop. My Pet Chicken has plan you can buy to build your own. They're pretty straight forward and give you a rough idea of how much it would cost you to buy materials to build yourself, if you're so inclined :)

Hope you get to keep your chicks!
