Property use change behind our home

We purchased our home 9-1/2 years ago. Our city, and HOA, allow chickens. Per city code, we built a run and coop that are 5 feet from our rear property line and 25 feet from the existing homes to our east and west.

However, this summer, a developer has constructed zero lot line homes to the south of our property line. The lots for these new places are so shallow that the tiny home they've put up behind us is within 12 feet of our fence. That means that our run and coop are no longer 25 feet from all dwellings.

We believe that our pre-existing coop and run shouldn't be affected by their choice to build so close to our property. Any thoughts on this?

Since your coop and run were built following city and HOA rules before the new homes, they are likely grandfathered in and shouldn’t be affected by the new construction’s closer proximity. You should review local regulations and possibly consult your city or HOA to confirm, but generally, your pre-existing setup remains valid despite the new nearby homes.
