chicks not roosting?

I've got 6 weeks old chicks in a growing out pen. They have a roost in there that they LOVE. But only during the day. At night they sleep in a nest pile in the corner. Is this a problem? Are they too young to sleep roosting? Is it a problem if they prefer to sleep on the floor?

This is very common, and completely normal, behavior for their age.

Don't feel alone! I've got Black Australorps and they are now almost 19 weeks old...and they STILL sleep cuddled up on the floor of the coop. No matter what I do they won't roost...drives me NUTS!!

So if they grow up and still prefer sleeping on the floor is there a problem with that? Is it unhealthy for them or anything?

As long as your coop floor is not an unhealthy place (which is an issue whether they sleep there or not), no.
