chicken gender??

what does sex linked mean? bc my black ones are black sexlinks and i never knew what it meant i thought it was a breed
and i don’t even know what barred is! and the females are just gray
What looks like gray is called blue in the chicken world. Barred is a pattern, it's those white "dots" you see on your cockerel.
Sexlinked means that the parents are specifically selected in a way that the color of their offspring is different based on their gender, because certain genes are linked to the sex chromosomes (which are different in males and females). Sapphire gems are a sexlinked cross – all female Saphire gems are solid blue (gray), and males are blue with white barring.
Black sexlinks are also a cross, but made up from different parents. Neither black sexlinks or sapphire gems are technically "breeds" because they consist of two different parent lines being crossed together, but that's if we really want to get into the specifics of it.

idk what a barred rock is, but tractor supply had it labeled sapphire gem pullets 😭😭🤬🤬
A lot of these folks (who probably know way more than I do) are saying that sapphire gems are sex linked and the cockerels will be barred, so that may be all it is, that they're males but are at least sapphire gems. Barred rocks are barred Plymouth Rocks, and Plymouth Rocks come in other colors as well, but barred is a common one to find at places like TSC.

Barred on what these folks are saying though, if the barred chicken in your pictures is in fact a sapphire gem, I think he's a cockerel, not a pullet.
