Chicks officially went outside in their brand-new coop!!

We did the same thing on accident. We repurposed wood to make a coop and bought the rest of supplies needed. I was VERY surprised that our coop cost $110.00 to complete (minus the wood and paint cost)! :( and it's only about 12 sq feet plus a second story sleeping area. It's to house 3 chickens as our 4th is a bully and will have her own space. The good thing is that it's wood and wire and can be built onto so nothing is set in stone. We have a 32 sq ft play area which will be completed this week for this coop. We plan to use this one (now that we see the size) for our separated chicken... Till then the 3 2 months old are in it. Next month we will be building an entire new coop that's much bigger for the three that are together. We plan to attach all four parts so they feel as if they are together. I'm not speaking from experience but you're coop does look to be small however I understand you're thinking. Chickens perch and ducks are on the floor. In time we both will figure this out! Good luck on your new adventure! They are so cute aren't they! 8)

Yeah, ours is 24 sq ft but if we ever feel the need to or want to add on to it because it is too small or we get more chickens, we built it so one of the walls just needs to be taken off with an electric drill and we can add onto it easily. The reason we built it smaller than some build is because we are building a BIG pen that will have a roof and walls on half of it so they can be outside of their house in all weather. Ahh, well. They have 3 sq ft a bird, so I am not worried about it, and we don't plan to get more chickens right now to go in this coop/run.The pen will be done next weekend so they will also be able to explore out their instead of being stuck inside all of the time. I feel bad that it has been so nice out and they can't even go sit in the sunshine! Thanks for the kind words and I wish you luck on your own chicken adventure as well!

That's what my hubby said lol! He was sure y'all built it to where you could drop a wall if need be. Darn, guess he knows more then I thought lol! Thanks and looking forward to seeing yours grow up! 8)

Just a quick thought bought the sunshine. We take extra rolled wire and make a circle and clasp it into itself. The inner part of the unused wire makes a smaller circle. We place our seperated hen inside the smaller circle and our other 3 in the bigger circle. (It's completely movable, you can roll it back up and/make the circles to size- I hope you can visualize what I mean). We put a patio table umbrella over the whole thing and sometimes a clipped on tarp if need be. It keeps the hawks and crows at bay and while we are outside we can walk away without worry and do what we need to while the baby chicks get some fresh air and sunshine! I'm on desktop so give me a few and I'll go outside and post a pic of what I mean as they are locked into my mobile. It was just a thought! Good Luck! 8)

You can see the inner circle but our little meany isn't in there so it's small in this pic but you get the idea. I too felt bad mine didn't go outside but really we didn't do it Till they were a month old unless they were in our hands. I just wanted to share cause I hate feeli.g guilty and this worked great for us. 8)

Yeah hopefully by next friday we will have their run done, they will be a month old then. But if we don't have it done I will definitely steal your idea

Maybe I could put the ducks with their "pool" in a little circle and put the chicks on the outside... ideas, ideas.

I think you should check out some of the information on this site about ventilation. I don't see any in your coop, maybe there's some under the eves that I can't see. But with that many growing chicks in that space, I would think you would need some substantial ventilation. I built a much larger coop and put a window in it, but when the sun shines on it, it gets to 90 degrees in there, and that's on a 63 degree day.
