For shared living space, a "poop board" under your roost will prevent your ducks from being bombarded with chicken poop from overhead.
Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, ours is 24 sq ft but if we ever feel the need to or want to add on to it because it is too small or we get more chickens, we built it so one of the walls just needs to be taken off with an electric drill and we can add onto it easily. The reason we built it smaller than some build is because we are building a BIG pen that will have a roof and walls on half of it so they can be outside of their house in all weather. Ahh, well. They have 3 sq ft a bird, so I am not worried about it, and we don't plan to get more chickens right now to go in this coop/run.The pen will be done next weekend so they will also be able to explore out their instead of being stuck inside all of the time. I feel bad that it has been so nice out and they can't even go sit in the sunshine! Thanks for the kind words and I wish you luck on your own chicken adventure as well!
We did the same thing on accident. We repurposed wood to make a coop and bought the rest of supplies needed. I was VERY surprised that our coop cost $110.00 to complete (minus the wood and paint cost)!and it's only about 12 sq feet plus a second story sleeping area. It's to house 3 chickens as our 4th is a bully and will have her own space. The good thing is that it's wood and wire and can be built onto so nothing is set in stone. We have a 32 sq ft play area which will be completed this week for this coop. We plan to use this one (now that we see the size) for our separated chicken... Till then the 3 2 months old are in it. Next month we will be building an entire new coop that's much bigger for the three that are together. We plan to attach all four parts so they feel as if they are together. I'm not speaking from experience but you're coop does look to be small however I understand you're thinking. Chickens perch and ducks are on the floor. In time we both will figure this out! Good luck on your new adventure! They are so cute aren't they! 8)![]()
when you build your new coop make sure to post pics I would love to see it!That's what my hubby said lol! He was sure y'all built it to where you could drop a wall if need be. Darn, guess he knows more then I thought lol! Thanks and looking forward to seeing yours grow up! 8)
