on a personal note, I bought several 2 or 3 month old barred rocks from a breeder who doesn't really coddle them or give them pet-type attention. *NOT saying he neglects them at all!* He has hundreds and hundreds of chickens so personal one on one attention would be quite rare. But ONE of the barred rocks I got from him ended up with the name Sweetheart because she comes up and lets me hold her and sorta hangs around. All my other chickens are kooks. Some will hang around but none just let me pick them up. I didn't do anything different with Sweetheart in the beginning, it was all HER. But with that being said, I do take every opportunity to pick her up now, cause I can
