chicks or chickens

Welcome to BYC! Michael O'Shay makes a good point about getting chicks vs. chickens and the possible loss of investment. Nice to have you join us.

Again I warn you about how dangerous it can be to have a dog around chicks or chickens. With that in mind, I would recommend getting chicks. If you were to get grown chickens, they would likely already be afraid of dogs and will run away from the dog and snap! your dog's instinct is to go chase it and kill it. So, if you get the chicks used to the dog while they are young, they will be less likely to run away when they are older.
I had a short Golden Retriever that killed one of my 6 week old chicks, but as they chickens got older and bigger, they seemed more intimidating to the dog and for the most part, she left them alone. They always have to be supervised when they are together though, especially if you have a big dog breed.
Also, Welcome to BYC! :)
