Chicks outside 4 weeks old

Do I need a lamp on them when they transition into the coop at 4-5 weeks old? Their feathers are coming in quickly and they are already running from the light. Even tho we moved it up higher.

Depends on your outside temperatures. They can go straight out if it's warm enough, otherwise a week to sweat them off the extra heat out in the coop is another option if it's cooler out.

I have a heat lamp in the coop outside still and mine are about 6-7 weeks old. I live in MD. It’s still getting down into the 40’s at night. Tomorrow I have a solar lightbulb coming and once I get that in I’m taking the heat lamp out. They’ll be ok

If they're fully feathered, they should be fine. They are already telling you they don't need the light anymore if they're running from it.

I'm in Florida, mine go out at 2.5 weeks old. Hard to answer a rhetorical question.
Sorry.. Usually six weeks or fair weather for my northern friends.

If your birds are in your house, they should have been off heat all together at 3 weeks of age. My birds wean themselves off heat at 4 - 5 weeks of age with night time temps down to 30*.

@Farmer Connie, Even if I brooded chicks in the house, they would still be out without heat at 4 - 5 weeks old!

If anyone is concerned, they can give the chicks a huddle box or a wool hen.

Do they need light at night? I only keep mine on for light so they don’t get hurt overnight.
