chicks outside food??

when i move my 13 chicks outside and have them mix with my 7 hens is it okay for the chicks to eat layer feed? if not what would be the best solution? also any suggestions on mixing flocks??

Put ALL your birds on starter/grower feed and offer oyster shell free choice. It is what I do. I have 6 laying hens, a rooster and 3 ten week old pullets all together, and 2 eggs under a broody. The OS will only get eaten when a bird NEEDS it.
