Chicks outside?

Is high 50's to low 60's to chilly for my 7 chicks to go on a "field trip" outside? Its sunny with a very gentle breeze.

4 weeks. They'd only be out for 15-20 minutes

I wouldn't think so. My chicks have been going outside since 3 weeks of age and it's only now getting to the high 50's. They were fine.

At 4 weeks they can spend several hours outside in those temps. If they'd been raised by a momma hen, they wouldn't be going back under hardly at all during the day, just at night.

Thanks! That's great to hear. They're going to start field trips today then, so we can move them to the coop soon.

I moved my 4 week old chicks out to the coop. ( 2 weeks ago) and kept them in the coop for a few days with the heatlamp if they needed it. And let them out for field trips. But they didn't want to go inside! They were happy eating grass and helping me dig for worms. After a few days of field trips and chasing the buggers into the coop, they started to put themselves to bed. They have now been outside for two weeks and are so happy!!! When I go out in the morning to open the door, they are standing in a line at their door waiting for me to open it!! Yesterday I decided it was time for my second batch of chicks to move out as well. They are 4 weeks old now. I separated the coop so they have their own door and half the coop. I also put one of the six week old chicks that was being trampled by the others with them and they get along great. By the way I live in ks and the temps have ranges from the 50s-80s during the day and 30s- 60s at night.

I started putting my Aussie's outside at 4 weeks old. The weather was in the low 60s (warming up to high 60/low 70) and they seemed quite comfortable. They sounded like they were cold when it started to get dark and the temp dropped to the low 50s, but they are now 6 weeks and don't seem to notice when the temp drops.

However, we have been a bit slow to get the coop ready for the girls (bought a house, planning a wedding and starting a flock - all at once!), so they have been sleeping indoors, since the cage they are in isn't very good for nighttime. I'm afraid I'm raising some princesses. Last night the temp was in the 70s, so plenty warm for them and they all started their plaintive peeping as soon as dusk arrived. They quieted down right away once they were placed in their cardboard box, and they even lined up to be carried inside!

Aren't they going to be surprised now that the coop is ready?
