I received some fertile eggs when I purchased some chicks. 6 eggs all different. I have a broody hen, so I gave the to her, she was in heaven. Put the 21 day count down on the calendar. I went out yesterday and checked the eggs, one was almost ready. I came out shortly there after and the chick was tossed across the coop. I tried to give it to her and she tried to kill it. I immediately took it inside where I had the backup setup. The whole yolk and bloody mass was attached. The chick had a huge purple lump under her. Needless to say she didn't make it. 3 others were hatched inside, 2 are ok. 1 passed. One more pipping. So, . what do I do now .I have a nice grip mat in there. When do I put food, water, and wood chips in there.

The chick lived for a day .I think because she didn't absord the yolk there was no nutrients. I want to make sure I know when to give the surviving chicks food, water, and wood chips

After chicks are dry I move them to a brooder on top of paper towels for a couple of days. I make food a water available as soon as I move them. and sprinkle a few crumbles around the paper towel for them to peck at while they are getting their land legs on them. After 2-3 days when I KNOW they are eating the crumble then I remove the paper towels which are already sitting on top of the PINE wood shaving.
