Chicks sleep weird!

Asleep with head in the feeder, asleep on the feeder with head hanging over the side. About the funniest was asleep with head in the waterer, guess the little guy got a gulp by accident then did about 3 backflips and layed on the brooder floor kicking for a couple seconds before getting oriented and making it to his feet for a dozen sneezes and head shakes.

They do look dead sometimes.

The neck stretch sleeping freaks me out the most.

I find it so funny that most of the chicks will fall asleep, often in a pile, but there's always that one that is still awake and just walks all over the pile, waking everybody up and starting a squabble.

I was told only pullets tuck their heads. From what I have observed so far it's true. But that doesn't tell you anything about the lazy little ones that sprawl all over the place.

None of mine tuck their heads. I probably have a flock of roosters.

Yeah, totally normal. Mine have been doing the same thing. I do have a perch for them but only one uses it (a RIR) and one of them (BR) sleeps on top of their waterer with her head dangling down the side. Really funny to watch. We also have a red who sleeps on top of their feeder. A lot of times during the day the will nap with each other, with their heads resting on each other. Two of our rocks love to nap with us. They nuzzle up on my or my wife's chest, tuck their head under their wing and go to sleep. So cute.

My silkie babies all pile up together in a corner. I think it's a game. The winner is the one who can wiggle under the most bodies and stay at the farthest back corner. They keep diving under each other, displacing another one who immediately dives under the others. It's like leapfrog in reverse.

When they grow up, they do the same thing as you can see (there are 7 adults in this one 11" x 11" nest box. Guess who is in the very back? My Lavender Roo! Some great protector he is. Not.
