Chicks waste feed

Hello

It seems as my chicks eat 50% of the feed and the rest is dump on the pine shavings.
Would it be ok to place a dish under the feeder to collect the feed the chicks are wasting and place it back in to the feeder ?

Yes.
Also you could make a feeder where they have to stick their head in a hole to eat so they can't scratch it out as much.

Its normal for most baby animals to make a mess during feeding time as its just in their nature. But yes, a better style of feeder should greatly lessen the amount of waste being created.

I also made a 2 gallon DIY chick feeder bucket, using 2 inch elbows. Same thing as the larger version in this thread.

Mine eat what is spilled on the ground and what's in the bowl. I don't get much wasted feed.
