I might be overreacting, but if my 3 week old chicks have dandruff, does it mean anything?

They're these little clearish-white flaky squares or other shapes and my girls have been preening a LOT, and when they do, the flakes come out...i tried to see if they were moving at all, but it didn't seem like it

It may be nothing to worry about. Chicks create a lot of dust as the grow their feathers. Its just a byproduct of growth. depending on where yo0u are keeping them, you may also notice a light, white dust covering everything near the brooder.

Imagine trying to push (not pull) a feather through a small hole. That's what birds have to do to make a feather grow. To allow the feather to grow out, a very thin paper-like sheath surrounds it, then flakes off. You will see these flecks fly when they groom.
