Hello,
I have 1 week old chicks & a couple seem to have diarreah. It is loose, brown, not formed & pretty smelly right when they go. They are only eating the chick starter & have fresh, clean water at all times & I clean their brooder daily. They seem fine otherwise, no signs of pasty butt. Is this something I should be concerned about? This is my first time raising chicks so I'm not sure if I should be worried or if this is normal?

Thanks!

From what you describe they are most likely fine. Loose poo is fairly normal for chicks.

Thanks so much! Glad to hear that there isn't anything wrong :-)

If its smelling, it is Definitely Cecal poo.you will see this their entire life. Out of so many poops they then do a cecal poop. Completely normal and healthy. However, if you want to give their system a good start you might consider using a probotic (benifical bacteria) you will really see a difference in their stool. Also, the benifical bacteria can actually fight off bad bacteria thats introduced into their system.i start probotics right away and continue through out their lives. I use Probios for poultry. It has SEVERAL different types of the benifical bacteria and not just a couple.ive used this product for several years now and its been wonderful. I order mine offline and You will be able to actually SEE the difference! It really gives the young ones a good healthy start. They will be able to process nutrition better with less food. Its added daily to their drinking waterer. I use one scoop (provided) to every gallon of water. I start as soon as my chicks arrive. For my older girls, they have a 5 galllon waterer so i use 5 scoops for them but it still equals 1 scoop per gallon. A jar lasts a good long time. Of course they will still do cecal poops because thats normal however you will see a huge difference in their regular poop. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
