I was wondering if chicks that are born with orange legs and feet will stay that color when they mature? Some of my Black Australorp x Black Jersey Giant cross chicks were born with the expected black legs and feet, and some of the others were born with orange legs and feet.

I also have two Black Australorp x Blue Cochin chicks that have orange legs and feet when neither of their parents do.

I don't know about orange legs in particular, but as they grew up, all my chicks kept the same colour legs they hatched with...

That's what I was thinking too. And when I ordered my Jersey Giants and Australorps from Murray McMurray Hatchery when they were small none of them had orange legs and feet. I'm wondering if it's because they're a crossed breed...

Ooh. Is that because orange legs are a recessive gene then? Like humans and blue eyes? I don't really know anything about crossing breeds and what results to expect but it's very intyeresting reading about it.

Right now I'm waiting for a batch of (what are supposed to be) Marsh Daisys to hatch and I'll be eagerly looking for green legs.
