Chicks won't eat treats.

Success!

I found a couple of worms and gave them to the chicks. At first they would only grab them and throw them around and then rub their beaks in the shavings frantically as if they were trying to get the taste out of their mouth. I then cut the worm up into pieces and gave it to them. This they loved. The next day I gave them a few more. This time it was on. One would grab the worm and it was a race around the brooder. Is there such a thing as feeding them too many worms? I have been giving them a couple a day split between four 3 week olds (almost). They are small worms, not the big night crawlers (yet).

I usually don't try to give them anything other than their feed until they are at least a month old.
If you start introducing new things, make sure they get some chick grit to help grind up the unfamiliar food.
I also wouldn't leave an egg/yogurt or anything that could possibly spoil in their brooder more than about an hour just to make sure they don't get sick from it(IF they decide to eat it eventually). As far as the earthworms go, I wouldn't feed them earthworms at all-I know many people disagree with me on this point, but they can cause gapeworm.
Good luck with your chicks.

Hi! Mine were skiddish at first, too. But a few meal worms ended this! I just call them and they come running now! Just pinch the meal worm and hold it so they can see it wiggle. Eventually one curious one will come over to check it out. After it finds it good, it will run around screaming and them you will be rushed. Now they will at least try anything I offer them., Good luck! I would think a worm would work about as well.

My 3 week olds get hysterical for mealworms and barilla high protien spagetti (cooked). Today they sampled finely chopped spinach.
