Chicks???

If you read my first post you know that i may be getting some chicks soon... EEPPPPP!!!!

And, we might grow some of them, and possibly have the mother hatch some, but we won't have seperate spaces if some of them are roosters, and some are hens... is there a certain time that they have to be out of heat, to make sure they haven't developed at all, if we want to eat them and i've read about candling, I know i am reallllly new to this whole chicken thing, just trying to find out as much info as possible b4... May? (hopefully) I know i must sound stupid, but i am kinda

about everything. I don't need the prettiest

chickens, just something to take care of that will lay eggs. And as babys

they are REEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYY CUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if I completely understand but here goes. If you are wanting to keep eggs to eat and to hatch all you need to do is put the ones you are eating in the fridge and the ones you want to hatch in a cool area, like on the kitchen counter where they won't get hot. The ones you are going to hatch will need to be turned at least once a day until you have what you want to hatch (if you are using an incubator) . Is that what you were asking?

Sort of, i was asking if the egg was fertile, can't you just put it in the fridge and it will just not, grow?

Yes, as long as you collect daily and put them in the fridge you won't have a problem. Heat is what causes the development in fertile eggs. Either heat from the hen setting or heat from the incubator.

Ok, but what if one of the hens goes broody and then is just sitting on eggs, and i have a rooster. How long should i wait before candling to see if they are fertile?
