How old should my chicks be to turnout with the older hens and how do I do it?

As soon as they can handle the tempertures. Right now in Texas I put some out with the flock that are just a few days old. And they have been doing fine for over a week now. I just put some food out that only they can reach, by putting a old dog kennel in the coupe. This also gives them a place to run to, to get away from the older chickens.
