Have you thought about training your chickens to come when called? I use a clicking sound with my tongue (the walk-trot cue... at least it was for my horses) an old habit that transferred to my chooks. If they're far away I call out "Here Chicky-chickens!" first to get their attention. Now, whenever I'm in the yard I can hardly move because they're constantly underfoot. I mean, they come running to me! So funny. And so easy to put them away any time during the day.

Teach your flock that when you shake the treat can(sunflowers seeds , etc) they will get some. Then when you need to round them up at dusk- shake the can with get gusto.
They can have some treats just before they go into the coop.
