Ok call me picky or whatever, but I dont get it when people ask/talk about the head shape. According to the AKC standards, their head should be apple shaped, any other shape is a fault, but yet people stll breed for deer heads, etc.

Same with the size, I hate it when people say they have a teacup chihuahua, theres no such thing, a chihuahua is a chihuahua, no matter the size.Theres no breakdown on size like in poodles and some other breeds. The standard says: "A well balanced little dog not to exceed 6 pounds"
Disqualification – Any dog over 6 pounds in weight.

Lately "breeders" near me have been breeding for "deer legged" chihuahua, so in other words, they are breeding a fault on purpose and giving it a name, like with deer shaped head and so on.

That is why i love my chi Pippin, he has a lovely apple head and has the short legs whereas my other chi Lily looks like a mini-deer. I like the true chi standards over the fawn long nosed long legged look.

depends. I despise the AKC in some regards. My favorite dogs have been AKC culls that would have been put down because they were the wrong weight, or slightly shaped head.

I think when it comes to breeding, especially for the standard - Yes, this is certainly a problem. I myself don't like excessively short legs, but I'm not for showing Chihuahuas. I have a similar rant in my mind about Akitas - Almsot noone ever breeds them to the standard of needing a nice, large, bearish look - A look similar to their orgin of the Tosa Inu. These days, Akitas look like Huskies in body type. Skinny and ugly. (not saying Huskies are - But Akitas that look like Huskies are ugly.

Yup. Anyone ever know what the standards and dogs themselves looked like in the 50's and before?

They looked like actual working dogs. The AKC is seriously asking for more and more extremes in dogbreeds. Back in the day, Basset Hounds weren't severely short legged, sloppy, loosely skinned, etc. Same with Most other "sloppy" and loose looking breeds. I can name SO many breeds that have been too refined, sloppy, short legged, or bred to unnatural, unhealthy extremes due to the AKC standards.

Just my opinion.

That's down to the breeder not the AKC. Responsible breeders sell or rehome poor examples with a spay/neuter contract.

Our dogs are KUSA and FBSA doggies but Yael our boxer has skin problems and it has been test to come from her father which was crowned 'standard'.
