    Quote:Yep, that is soooo true!

When I had my first flock, which was many years ago, I started with "used" mixed Standards. The RIR's were my favorite. Then a friend gave me a few Silkies and I fell in love all over again!

Now, I have 21 Banty's (going on 4 weeks old). We have a mix of Mottled Cochins, Araucanas, Silver Sebrights, Black-Tailed Buff Japanese, and Blue Silkies. And they are ALL my favorites...imagine that!!![IMG]

We were only going to keep one of the Blue Silkie roos BUT......I've changed my mind and hubby's cringing...can you say "Need more coops and runs"...[IMG]

    Pix of the "kids"...

I'm new to the whole chicken thing.
But I've read several posts and it all seems fascinating!

Seems like it would be a really rewarding thing to start doing.

Any advice for a newbie like myself?

    Well 'Natalie'

Its Very Brave Of You To Take On This Position With Chickens, I Recommend You Buy One Of My Books? There Are Lots To Choose From, Such As

'The Rise And Fall Of The Barn'
    And My Personal Favourite
    'To En-Chickeny And Beyond!'

Just wanted to give you folks a heads up. Chickens are flock animals, and do NOT do well by themselves. Even as tiny babies, if you seperate one he/she will peep and peep and peep incessantly.

Two or more would be much better for your bird.

I would recommend "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" <someone please correct the title if I've gotten the wording wrong>. It will give you an indepth view of every aspect of chicken raising.

Welcome to the club! We love our babies!
