Yep, that is soooo true!

When I had my first flock, which was many years ago, I started with "used" mixed Standards. The RIR's were my favorite. Then a friend gave me a few Silkies and I fell in love all over again!

Now, I have 21 Banty's (going on 4 weeks old). We have a mix of Mottled Cochins, Araucanas, Silver Sebrights, Black-Tailed Buff Japanese, and Blue Silkies. And they are ALL my favorites...imagine that!!!

We were only going to keep one of the Blue Silkie roos BUT......I've changed my mind and hubby's cringing...can you say "Need more coops and runs"...

I'm new to the whole chicken thing.
But I've read several posts and it all seems fascinating!

Seems like it would be a really rewarding thing to start doing.

Any advice for a newbie like myself?

Well 'Natalie'

Its Very Brave Of You To Take On This Position With Chickens, I Recommend You Buy One Of My Books? There Are Lots To Choose From, Such As

'The Rise And Fall Of The Barn'

Just wanted to give you folks a heads up. Chickens are flock animals, and do NOT do well by themselves. Even as tiny babies, if you seperate one he/she will peep and peep and peep incessantly.

Two or more would be much better for your bird.

I would recommend "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" <someone please correct the title if I've gotten the wording wrong>. It will give you an indepth view of every aspect of chicken raising.

Welcome to the club! We love our babies!
