Here some ideas for their motivations: Being abandoned as a child, and after spending years in an orphanage want to take over the world, wanting both the glory and power that will come with that, because they have never had that before or having been betrayed by someone close, perhaps boyfriend, or friend, and doesn't necessarily want to take over the world, but seeks revenge. Sorry if these ideas are lame.)
