"I'm a fox, obviously, and true to form, I like to play, even if that is in water." Zoe said then shrugged a bit "Foxes also like to hunt, but I am stuck on this island."

He gave her a small smile and just hugged her close to him. "It wasn't so bad, not as bad as most think. Don't get me wrong it was a hard life, not always knowing where and when my next meal would come, not always knowing who to trust. But there was a freedom there, I made my life with my own choices. Not many kids get that kind of freedom. There are certainly those who had it worse. I never knew my parents, I started my life in a kids home, ran away when I was six and lived on the streets until Ryker found me. In a way I am happy he did, it led me to you." Maddox finished with a smile and a gentle kiss to her forehead.

Lilith listened to his story attentively, nodding and agreeing with most of his points. Tears came to her eyes when she heard that being captured by Ryker was worth it just to have met her. She whispered "I feel the same way. And one day, we'll leave. You and me. And we can do whatever we want to with our lives, together." She placed her arms around him, and rested there, calm and content with him around.

Zoe nodded and looked up as she moved to rest against the side of the pool. "I think of running away sometimes, even if only to go and find that school place."

He smiled at her caring for his life while young, and also for her optimism. " While the ideal of leaving is strong. I agree it was for the longest time my goal. But at this point where would we go? You and I are not able to hide what we are now, we can not hide our wings. We would not have the ability to hide in the human world. Where would we flee too to make our new life?" He asked curiously but still kind.
