Hi BYC! After a bit of a hiatus (Covid striking all 5 household members, our tradition of spending way too much time setting up elaborate Halloween decorations, Thanksgiving, and now Christmas... phew!), I'm back with a last-minute gift idea! I borrowed this book from our local library recently and it's been a hit at our house!

Hens for Friends by Sandy de Lisle (illustrated by Amelia Hansen). Available here on Amazon (if you order soon after seeing this, you can probably get it before Christmas, depending on your location). https://www.amazon.com/Hens-Friends-Sandy-Lisle/dp/0940719266

Guys, I'm not being paid by the author or publisher for this shout-out, I'm just genuinely obsessed with it! And so are my kids! For a children's book, it's very well-written and gives a concise yet informative overview of backyard chicken-keeping. There's even a brief section at the end that goes over some basics of chicken care. The illustrations are just gorgeous too! If anyone out there has kids or grandkids who recently acquired or are about to acquire chickens, I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

Just read the Amazon reviews; this book looks marvelous!
Oh, it is! It touches on so many great topics: chicken care and welfare, the impact of local government, and more. Accessible to children without being dumbed down. I don't want to give it away, but it's a really great book! I wish the author wrote similar books for other domesticated animals!
