The benadryl can help if it is an insect bite. Tick bites are also common. Keep us posted on how she is doing.

I am actually not sure if she was vaccinated against that particular disease. I got her from Murdoch’s (a local feed and supply store if you’re not familiar). The vet I take my dogs too actually sees chickens, I wonder if they do autopsies. She hatched around April 7th so not even four months, hadn’t even started laying.Oh no, I am so sorry for your loss. How old was Eleanor? Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? I have seen a picture once of a Mareks tumor in that region of the neck. If you could keep her body cold in a refrigerator or on ice in a cooler, you could take or ship her body overnight to the state vet for a necropsy to look for a cause of death. Many state vets will send a prepaid mailer for overnight shipping via Fedex or UPS, so no questions are asked about what is being shipped. Driving the body in is the least expensive and easiest. Here is a list of most state vets:

Oh that does look similar… she wasn’t showing any signs though and she was so young! I wonder if that could have been it still.Mareks is not that easy to diagnose, but the state vet pathologists are more familiar with looking for signs. Certain states have more affordable necropsies as well. Mareks testing is available if the necropsy shows any signs of the 4 types of Mareks.
