China disgusts me

I work with a great many Chinese people who have immigrated to America because, well, in many ways China is not a good place for people OR for animals. And yeah, we have lots of things wrong here, but our problems are Little League stuff compared to what is institutionalized and normal there. Here, we still have the capacity to be shocked and to speak out that it is wrong/immoral--there, they don't.

Not to say there are not many wonderful things about China as well: in martial arts, architecture, cuisine, inventing variolation (early version of vaccines), many technical advances, civil engineering on a scale most Westerners can barely dream of, Western culture can stand to learn many things from China. But on compassion, freedom and human rights, not so much.

Well as of last Thursday the Canadian government just added the the USA to their list of countries that abuse human rights. We might be your allies but, you are now officially are up there with China, Isreal, Iran, & Syria among others. Our diplomats are now being advised of the abuse's that your country practices.

I was talking about Western culture in general (including Canada, Europe, South America), not specifically the United States. And again, my point was that here, abuses are NOT normal, and people get mad and are free to speak out about it (e.g. Amnesty International, UN delegates). In China, that sort of thing is perfectly normal, usual, happens every day and anyone who speaks out or files lawsuits to try to stop it is killed themselves. There are levels and gradients of screwed-upped-ness, nobody is 100% perfect and nobody is 100% evil.

I mean, even Canada has the Sterilization Act of Alberta, Karl Toft, the Toronto Police drug scandals in 2004, bill C3, security certificates, and the way Vancouver police ran a 2002-2003 crackdown on the Downtown Eastside. My point is, if you're looking for a country who has never, ever done a single bad thing once ever, you're not gonna find one. Countries and governments are made of people, and people are pretty much the same all over: some good qualities, some bad qualities, which you see at any moment depends on the situation they are dealing with and their history.
