Hello!
I have two 4 week old Chinese painted quail juveniles, and was wondering if they are male or female. I first thought they were female as they lacked any reddish vent feathers but over the last few days they seemed to develop a white section under their chins, this is what is making me second guess myself. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I have tried to number the pictures with either a 1 or 2, to make it a bit easier to see which pictures belong to each quail. 20200803_213313.jpg 20200803_213313.jpg 20200803_213249.jpg 20200803_213236.jpg 20200803_213208.jpg 20200803_213123.jpg 20200803_213047.jpg 20200803_213004.jpg 20200803_212948.jpg 20200803_212240.jpg

Can you take pictures of them in their housing/cage/brooder? They almost look like silver tuxedos, which the white could block rust feathering and any chin markings. Do you know/own the parents or did you get hatching eggs/chicks? : )

Unfortunately, they can't be feather sexed. For this particular mutation, they don't have rust feathers or a normal bib. Males and females can have a white throat too. They will have to be behaviourally or vent sexed.

No unfortunately I don't know the parents as they were all hatched from different bloodlines. I have included a couple of pictures of them in their brooder. Thank you for your reply!

I thought this might end up being the case, I will definitely start looking in to this and how to go about it. Thank you very much for your reply!
