We have to Chinese White Crested Geese, they will be 4 months old in 1 weeks. Is is possible to tell if they are male or female at this age? Thanks for taking the time to help. Rose

Beautiful geese, I always ask our Chinese expert @jchny2000

They are gorgeous!

It appears they might be a pair to me but my Chinese Geese knowledge is far from an expert level.

Do you think one on the left is female Kevin565? that was my guess but my Chinese Geese knowledge is way down below yours.

Thanks, I am no expert tho, they certainly are flat out Gorgeous! I am leaning pair also, one to the left does seem to have a bit smaller shorter legs. Necks look about the same, but slightly different shape in body lines. My chinese guys are very rounded rumps where the hens have the egg pouch/lobes. Still a bit difficult to tell for sure. Once the adult voices come in you will know.

A beautiful pair of geese...female on left male on right. Make sure they have a safe and secure place to establish themselves and have their nest and in another few months you will have a big surprise waddling toward you. Oh, as friendly as they are right now, when they made and nest you may find it almost impossible to get close and the male will defend his brood in ways you can not imagine.

Thank you all so much, when do they get their adult voices, and how do you tell by the voice?

I know for sure one is a male, he is always chasing the ducks, chewing on my husband, and getting in my face, the other one not so much. Although when we let them out they both charge out with their necks stretched out. I think the one on the left in the top picture is a male

I don't know about Chinese when their voice changes, I'm still waiting on my Buff's voice to change and she is over a year old, when she hollers it sounds like the cry of the banshee .

Really so we're all wrong? the one on the left well your the one living with him so you should know by his actions they do speak louder than words. I sure know who my ganders are. That's for sure.

Quote: Oh goodness, Buff are like embden, that have a loud call like a woman screaming then "OHHH"! Both male and female do that harsh squeal, too. My neighbor has a buff pair that visits my flock and pond daily. They are just beautiful! I like the sound because I always know where my flock is when I call them, right away

There isn't much difference in the voices, harder to tell than the chinese are for sure.
