Chipmonk color, boy or girl?

I heard that with the chipmonk or wild pattern chick, you can tell the sex by the line on the eyes. I thought a single dark line was supposed to be a she but I don't remember for sure. Can anyone help me out with this chick:

He/she is about 10 days old and I think it's a boy (It seems to be getting a comb already). Please tell me I'm wrong.

compare tail feathers. Girls generally get tails first so the girls will have longer tail feathers that the boys. the line on the eye is a new one by me.

I'm afraid this was a lonely little orphin-no one to compare with. I have a three more now but they are all younger.

10 days is way to early to tell gender. Pullets and roo's can have small combs at birth. you will have to wait a few weeks to see it is changes color.

I always thought so also but I'm sure I read on here somewhere about how to sex the wild pattern, I just can't remember what thread it was on and I can't find it again.

Lots of chicks hatch chipmunk colored. The only breed I'm aware of that you can sex by eye marking and V on the head is welsummers.

It's too early to tell sex on yours yet.

Coloration of the chicks only is an indicator on breeds developed specifically to be that way (called sex-links because the color is linked to sex).

Unfortunately there are a lot of old wives-tales out there about telling gender that confuse first time chicken owners. The only way to tell the gender of the chick is to wait and see how it develops. On breeds that are difficult to sex, that wait and see period might be all the way up until they crow/lay an egg.
