we have 4 7 week olds and 6 5 week olds that have been in the coop with a brooder box they can go in and out of for 3 weeks, today we took out the brooder box and now that it's night they are chirping up a storm. We still have the heat lamp on above the perches. My question is, is it normal that they are chirping this much?

Yes this is normal. They are confused because they don't have their box for security. It may take them a few days to get used to the new surroundings. They will quiet down though, especially after you can turn the heat lamp off and they can be in total darkness.

basically what you've done though, is as far as they're concerned, you've done away with their bed! Imagine if you were going to bed tonight, you go and find out the bedroom is no longer part of the house.........

Thanks for the reassurance. I got a little worried this morning when I realized the temp had dropped to mid 30's but I went and checked on them and the were all running around playing, eating and drinking so I think they're good. It took them a while but they eventually made it up to the perches, the 5 week olds on the top perch closest to the heat lamp and the 7 week olds on the lower perch further away from the heat lamp.
