Hello :). i have had chickens all my life and think i know quite alot about them, but i recently got an incubator (for the first time) and only managed to hatch one chick out of it. This chick is fine when someone is holding him, but when i put him into his house he chirps very very loudly, he is living in the house and has a chick brooder, i have tried putting cuddly toys and everything in with him, but he does not stop chirping, should i get him a friend?- will this stop him chirping? Thankyou :)

It sounds like he is just lonely, he obviously loves being cuddled!

from Alabama. Glad you joined us. Until you find your chick a friend, have you tried a mirror or feather duster? That's always helped when I've had solo chicks. Good luck

Thanks for all the advice :D, he wasnt to keen on the mirror, but i have discovered that he loves sitting on carpets, not hay!, so i found some old carpet in our shed, cut a square put and put it under the brooder, and then i went to work and my dad said he was quiet for the whole night :). I think im getting him a rhode island red chick friend next week though :D

Hi and :welcome

Good luck! he sounds like a really sweet little fella. He'll enjoy having another chick around for sure! :D
That's cool that he likes carpet.
