I just gathered my eggs and one is chirping. I had a hen I let set on some eggs. I thought I was gathering new eggs today but apparently not. The chick has pecked a little hole in the shell. I don’t know what I’m doing here. Im in over my head. I should have thought this experiment out more before I let that hen sit on the eggs. Can it hatch in a bowl on my kitchen counter or should I put it back in the nest. I kinda want to watch it. How long is this going to take? What should I expect?

Do you have a hen that is still sitting on eggs? If you do, then put it under her.

Welcome to BYC!

No, too cold in a bowl. :(
or should I put it back in the nest.
I would put it back and let her hatch it. I would also candle all of the other eggs to make sure they don't have chicks in them.
I kinda want to watch it.
If you really want to watch you could go to Tractor Supply and buy an incubator, but I think the best choice is to put the egg back.
How long is this going to take?
The chick should hatch in the next 24 hours.
I What should I expect?

I just put it back under the hen. I’m fix to put the other ones back too. The hen had kicked these eggs out of the nest so that’s why I thought they were new eggs of another hen.

I think the broody abandoned them. Why would she push eggs out of her nest?

Sounds like other hens may have been contributing to the nest all along. The eggs designated for hatching were not marked(?) Only so many eggs will fit under a broody and if other hens are laying there too, eggs get tossed/kicked around.
