Aw, I'm sorry for your loss. It could have very well been lack of oxygen, or just a weak runty chick, or malpositioned, etc. It's hard to know for sure. I'm glad the link helped, that is an excellent article. Good luck with your next hatch! Incubating eggs is a big learning experience. Glad I could help, even though it was too late for the little guy.Thank you again for your help. The sad update is that the chick had died hours before inside the egg, as feared, looking like due to lack of oxygen. Lesson learned, I think, is to intervene earlier when things seem off. Your link was extremely helpful. When I noticed the air cell was all but gone, I should have intervened with a safety hole, at least, and maybe would have had a live chick.
The others are alive and well, and I'll pass on the knowledge to the rest of the family, who is just getting into and learning how to hatch our own eggs. Many, many thanks again @MGG. Next time will be better!![]()
