I have just started my ancona flock. I have two pair blk and two pair chocolate. Been reading on the sex link gene of my choc and get that if i breed choc drake to blk duck then females will b choc and males blk but that the blk male ducklings will have choc sex link trait. What does that mean for breeding the blk males when older?

Also if anyone knows of a thread about color genetics for all poultry pls let me know. Or anyone else with a ? of their own feel free to post here! I can change name of thread i think. I raise swedish ducks and it got me started trying to learn all i can about color genes. I also have decided to raise every critically endangered breed of poultry if any advice in that area. I have the ducks now on to chx. Thanks for any help or advice!

Welcome to BYC, you can check on this under the sticky thread on ducks. It's called "Understanding Basic Color Genetics". Hope it helps

Thank u so very much!!!! I will go there now! I have separated all my breeds and colors but am still very interested in how it all works. It started with my fave color being blue grey so was gonna get every grey poultry. Lol. Always wanted blue swedish and started raising and had to read up on it. Then finding out they were on watch list for livestock conservation i read up on that. Decided to raise all critically endangered poultry. When the anconas came it brought on more color genetics! Lol. Have all the critical ducks now and moving on to chx. If u know of any other forums or sites related to my endeavor it would b great. I am just learning how to use this site. I love it and i appreciate greatly u taking the time to answer me. God bless!

It's a pleasure I could be of help. And all the best in your effort towards the conservation drive. This site has valuable information, just that you'll need to do a lot of search to get what you need. There are threads on almost all the breeds of ducks, so you can just use the name of the type you have in the search. Good luck and God bless you as well.
