Chocolate/Mauve Ameraucana color project~ BeakHouse

Pics
Is anyone else still working on this project? I just started on a first generation, and would love to get a "leg up" on the project if someone has F2 or even F3 birds or eggs!

Boo!!

Popping in again. Finally got the whole facility moved, birds grouped, and an infrastructure for the winter. My farm partner (Pinwheel) is doing gobs of brutal labor in this hideous winter mix, and I'm ever so grateful.

After having downsized the flock to almost nothing, I have 10 or 12 birds in the Silkied Ameraucana group, consisting of Fluffies, non-Fluffies and Splits, Black, Blue, Chocolate, Mauve and Splash. I'm soon going to divide them into Fluffies and non-Fluffies to straighten out once again who does and doesn't have the hookless gene, so that I can propagate Chocolate Ameraucanas that aren't Silkied, as well. I do also have a group of teens growing out and I'll pick and choose and offer the rest up here for sale.

How the heck are ya, Pat??!!?

We're getting the infernal cold and deadly winds here, too. I made big plastic tents for each breeding run and filled them with leaves to give wind breaks and a place to get out of the coop without being freeze-dried. It's smashingly easy: Staple a piece of clear plastic from the hardware store (plastic sheeting is sold in 50', 100' rolls) to your coop, making sure the piece is significantly longer than the width and height of the area which you're stapling to: give length to drape the sides down and pull it out away from the house like a lean-to. I attach it by using long garden staples at an angle. This provides a greenhouse-like area that is fully protected from the wind. It's better if you can make it tall enough for getting in and moving around- just in case you need to. I leave mine up all winter.

It's warmed up ¥¥†

This thread has been so quiet for so long I was wondering if anyone was still working in these colors. Glad you're back Renee. I haven't talked to Pat in a long time. Guess she's busy. Last time I talked to her she said she was anyway.
So I don't have any silkied or choc/mauve anymore. The ones I had were taken by an opposum.

I need to get eggs but my DH says no more untill we weed out the knes we don't need. Which in his mind is 90% of the flock we have.

I want this coloring though. Badly! They are so pretty!!
Let me know when you have eggs again.

Yeah, I was wondering where she is! I've had a couple of folks ask about some eggs from some of the lines she's got, so she's got sales waiting for her!

I'm going to set up a couple of much smaller areas with some breeding pairs just so I can get some very specific matches made. I'm going to make pink fluffies.
