Chocolate Orpington Project

Maybe one of you can work on Orps, and one on Cochins.

I think Cochins would be cooler, because Chocolate Orps already exist...

Just my opinion...
Jason

I agree. They would be the first chocolate cochins.

And easier for me because of what birds I already have, and Cochins are so much prettier in my opinion.

lol Oh I don't know. I may decided to do Cochins, or both. Not sure yet.

Hmm chocolate silkies you say. That gives me a bright idea!

If I get Chocolate Bantam Polish I may as well put them to good use with my Silkies as well. lol

So many projects, so little time and pens. lol

Can you still import birds? I know its really hard and expensive, but a few people did it. Wonder if you still can and its just a question of jumping thru a lot of hoops (and a whole lotta $$$$!)

Hi, I am with you all, I would like in on this one also.
I am new to chickens this year. I am loving my 1 yr old Buff Orp..

Heres the maybe non important part... I breed poodles.. (chocolate is my favorite color here also) I know it was NOT an original color.. It was a fluke that they line bred until there was enough to out cross.. Now the Reds came way later. I can say if chickens color coding is like canines.. You will need 2 chocolate recessive genes to make this color.. So mom and dad will both probably have to carry the color.
Ok.. I'll stop now.. cuz I'm probably way off.. But I'm in..

That is exactly my plan. I had 2 wc polish bantams hatch out last month. The khaki didn't make it but the chocolate is doing well and I have a good many black orp chicks. I hope all goes well for you.

Maybe I've just never understood correctly, but aren't dun and chocolate two completely different genes? Dun is what we have here in the US. It is similar to the blue gene, meaning it doesn't breed true. Offspring of dun x dun mating will produce, khaki, dun, and black offspring. Chocolate on the other hand is found in the UK and breeds true. Chocolate x chocolate results in all chocolate babies.

I just wanted to clarify for myself out of curiousity, and for anyone else who may be working on this project that the birds will be dun, not chocolate.

I recently saw some white orpingtons that had chocolate spots on them .. they were GORGEOUS they look like a cookie ahah
