Chocolate Orpingtons

well there was supossed to be a line of recessive chocolate wyandottes here in the US (just like in Europe). I am in contact with some people in England to see if I can get hatching eggs sent here as to get already hatched birds will be costly after having them in quaentine for 30 days. I am checking on several leads for the recessive chocolate. I will be making a dun one as well, this will produce dun (AKA chocolate) and Khaki ones. This one will be faster to get here than the recessive chocolates.

I will look into the fawn OEGB and see if that is the color I am looking for. As far as the silver gene, you can delete genes as you breed just as easy as adding them so if that is what I am looking for, then both the Dun and the recessive chocolate will be in the works.

Katie,
They have pictures of them on Feathersite under the breed of letter of O for Orpington. You can also go to the UK Orpington site and sometimes they have pictures of them on Ebay UK for hatching eggs for sale. They did also have the Chocolates on the Ebay UK for hatching eggs a couple of weeks or so a go. HS

This may be a dumb question, but if you are going to go to all the trouble and expense to have eggs shipped from across the pond.....why not go straight to a chocolate Orp breeder? Wouldn't standard eggs ship better than bantam eggs?

it will depend on whether a breeder of them is willing to send them or not, and of course finding one that is honest too. as far as whether stanard or bantam ship better, I think the packaging is what makes or breaks it. I would take either orps or wyandottes, but it is my understanding even over there the chocolate orps are not very common.
