Thank you both for your support.
I don't know who else is working on solid chocs. This year has been a tough one for me. I've had medical issues to deal with and am just barely treading water when it comes to taking care of my chickens. So I haven't had much time to communicate with other breeders, or take many pictures of my hatchlings, for that matter. My solids chocs (pullets) came from Jerry. I do only have just one of laying age left now, and unfortunately she refuses to let my choc-carrier cock breed her!. My choc-carrier cock is from Pixie Chick/juliette. He is a frizzle and he sure likes to pass that gene on to his choc babies! My oldest young choc cockerel has a lot of red on his shoulders and gold in his hackles, but I have a couple younger ones that do not show any red/gold yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that at least one stays that way! I also have a few solid choc pullet chicks, but they are only a few weeks old. I just bought a blue cockerel and black pullet from Jerry, as well. They are still young, but definitely have a lot of potential. I love the diluted black colors. Just wish we have lavender in Seramas. But then I would have more Seramas than I can handle right now!
Let me know if you start a chocolate thread. Hopefully we can do some trades next year if we end up with enough breeder-quality birds.
luvinrunnin, have you read through the info here: http://www.edelras.nl/chickengenetics/ ? It's very informative. Also, playing around with the genetics calculator is fun http://kippenjungle.nl/breeds/crossbreeds.html . For me, however, the info didn't really "stick" well until I purchased Sigrid Van Dort's "The Genetics of Chicken Colors". You can read about it here http://chickencolours.com/pagina3.html and get the address for Jerry, who sells them in the US, here http://chickencolours.com/pagina4.html . Not sure if he has any left. There is also good basic information in the Serama Colors book (http://chickencolours.com/pagina15.html), which I know Jerry had a few copies of left as of Sept 20.
