Chocolate Serama Breeders - dun and blue can be included here as well

Thank you both for your support.

I don't know who else is working on solid chocs. This year has been a tough one for me. I've had medical issues to deal with and am just barely treading water when it comes to taking care of my chickens. So I haven't had much time to communicate with other breeders, or take many pictures of my hatchlings, for that matter. My solids chocs (pullets) came from Jerry. I do only have just one of laying age left now, and unfortunately she refuses to let my choc-carrier cock breed her!. My choc-carrier cock is from Pixie Chick/juliette. He is a frizzle and he sure likes to pass that gene on to his choc babies! My oldest young choc cockerel has a lot of red on his shoulders and gold in his hackles, but I have a couple younger ones that do not show any red/gold yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that at least one stays that way! I also have a few solid choc pullet chicks, but they are only a few weeks old. I just bought a blue cockerel and black pullet from Jerry, as well. They are still young, but definitely have a lot of potential. I love the diluted black colors. Just wish we have lavender in Seramas. But then I would have more Seramas than I can handle right now!

Let me know if you start a chocolate thread. Hopefully we can do some trades next year if we end up with enough breeder-quality birds.

luvinrunnin, have you read through the info here: http://www.edelras.nl/chickengenetics/ ? It's very informative. Also, playing around with the genetics calculator is fun http://kippenjungle.nl/breeds/crossbreeds.html . For me, however, the info didn't really "stick" well until I purchased Sigrid Van Dort's "The Genetics of Chicken Colors". You can read about it here http://chickencolours.com/pagina3.html and get the address for Jerry, who sells them in the US, here http://chickencolours.com/pagina4.html . Not sure if he has any left. There is also good basic information in the Serama Colors book (http://chickencolours.com/pagina15.html), which I know Jerry had a few copies of left as of Sept 20.

A few weeks ago, I posted photos of these chicks....

Thought I would post updates of them a few weeks later....the little chocolate is getting white splotches...don't know if this is a chocolate splash or not???..I thought splash started out light colored, so will just have to wait and see.

I'm new to Seramas and I got my first one from Juliette recently. He is a Chocolate split cockerel and he's frizzled too! He is by far the sweetest chicken I've ever had! I thought my Silkies were sweet but hes a sweetheart! He spends alot of time in the house, he just lets himself in and makes his way to the living room. He has a fondnest to my daughter and he likes to sleep around our necks lol! LOVE IT!!! I am going to work on Chocolate Seramas and Chocolate Silkies. I LOVE the color! I'll be putting my chocolate split cockerel serama in with 2 of my Black Silkies. I'd love to get a pure CHOCOLATE pullet/hen, not dun...but they aren't too easy to find. After doing some research, I've decided I should probably just go ahead and get a pure Black Serama for now. Anyways, I'm a very busy mama and read ALOT about chickens when I can so I'm very eager about my project. I'd love to share pics, info etc with all of you and maybe swap some eggs/chicks or pullets/cocks in the future

His name was "Anthony" when I bought him...my daughter is thinking of a name for him now lol. He spent hours with us on "movie night" the other night. He made himself at home and snuggled on the couch with us

I'll post a pic tomorrow of our new boy snuggling with us. My computer is acting up

Welcome to the wonderful world of Seramas! I started out with them last year thinking I was going to use chocolate Seramas to make chocolate bantam cochins. But I fell so in love with my Seramas that I decided to change my focus to them! I just love how many different colors and patterns they have, and how you can get so many different looking offspring from the same two parents.

There are at least of couple of us here working on chocolate Seramas, so hopefully next year it won't be so hard to find a chocolate hen.

Good luck with your project. You have such a nice looking Serama boy that you should definitely find him a pretty girl or two.

My Serama boy, Little Man is like that. Used to I would let me loose in the front yard while I was working and he would follow me around, he would get so upset if he couldn't find me!!
