Chocolate Serama Breeders - dun and blue can be included here as well

Pics
Photos often do not do justice to the rich brown color from the chocolate gene, especially in overcast lighting. In the sunlight, my chocolate hen looks like the color of Hershey chocolate bar.

Thank you for the replies everybody. I'm looking real close at those tails to see if they are black or grey. They are not as black as my d'uccles.
How do you stick "pumpkin" in Henk's calculator?

Here is one of my Mauve chicks, (sorry, not a Serama but I hope to make this color in Serama's) So, coming soon, Mauve Serama's ;)
Mauve does fit in here because it's blue and chocolate

You can't stick "pumpkin" in the calculator. There is a set of color genes that make the so-called pumpkin diluter.

Heres a few pics of some of my chocolates. They are all from Pixie Chick. I got the first roo from her and put him with one of my Black Silkie hens (the breed Silkie). I'm working on getting Chocolate Silkies. The youngster at the bottom is one of the chicks from this cross. The others are my newest additions from Pixie Chick. Just love their coloring!

and of course they are all molting right now so don't look their best. Can't wait til I start getting fertile eggs from them :)

Love the lacing on the chocolate Serama/Silkie cross, especially as you can see it in the picture with the Silkie. Is that Silkie dun? It's a beautiful color and a gorgeous bird.

Hi everyone,

I'm totally new here.. as well as to Serama's. I did just purchase my first trio, more so to be pets and get acquainted with the breed while I'm learning. I've been researching continuously, however, this whole color genetic thing in chickens is really HEAVY. :)

I'm wanting to focus on type in my small program above all else however, I do also want to learn more about color genetics. I'm not sure how to add photos yet but my avatar is the bird that is in question. I was told he's a "coco-pop". After researching cocopop, chocolate and dun I think I have it somewhat solidified in my wee brain. Can anyone give me any thoughts on this bird? How does one look at a bird and start to break down the genetics at play? I actually don't even know what he weighs yet and could very well be too overweight to be a C class...(and the sellers cull) but I thought he was cute just the same.

It's overwhelming to purchase your first Serama's and making sure you look at all the details! LOL

Thanks!

Steve

Ok.. I just figured out how to add a photo.... I think. :) Thank you for your help and input. I'm here to learn!

Steve

I'm learning too, and watching this and other dun/chocolate/cream threads - pretty bird!
