The ones I've see, the black was diluted. None of mine had any really black feathers on them.I understood that with the pumpkin effect, black still remains black. Other diluters like dun can explain the khaki/white effects.

I would love to see some pedigree...The ones I've see, the black was diluted. None of mine had any really black feathers on them.
Me too, I'm not sure a pedigree on a Serama would do much good though. I see a lot of what breeders call pumpkin in the Serama. With multiple breedings, the color dilutes to a pale grey/brown. The term Fig Pudding for color in the old game breeds is this pumpkin dilution with that lacing. The lacing is brown, looks like chocolate lacing but this is not chocolate. The chick color is very deceptive and often confused with chocolate chick down but a subtle red tone to it all over.I would love to see some pedigree...![]()
You'll know if the hens are chocolate then 100% of the chicks will be chocolate if the cockerels are. If they are carriers, 100% of the pullets will be chocolate, half the cockerels will be non chocolate or carriers and half the cockerels will carry chocolate.Juliette did test breed both Rolo & Count Chocula and said they are chocolate SPLITS. I just went over all the info about them again on her website and she did say that Count Chocula is a very very dark chocolate she "thinks" but at the very least hes a chocolate split. She did test breed after this comment and when she put him up for auction she said he was Chocolate-Blue. She test bred Rolo and put him up for auction afterwards saying he was Chocolate-Wheaten. So your telling me that neither of them are chocolate but MAYBE choc carriers??
This is a comment made by Juliette on her website about Rolo...."Last time around, Rolo gave me frizzled chocolate girls and one black frizzled silkied cockeral"
Ok now Rolo was paired with "The Triplets" 3 chocolate frizzled pullets.
Count Chocula was paired with 2 Chocolate frizzled girls.
What?If they are carriers, 100% of the pullets will be chocolate, half the cockerels will be non chocolate or carriers and half the cockerels will carry chocolate.
What?![]()
I have chocolates too, you're welcome to tell your friend that I would love to talk with them. Working with other breeders is a great way to improve linesMy friend has a chocolate serama project in progress....
