One of my ostrich chicks appear to be choking all of a sudden. He's very lethargic and is spitting up. His crop doesn't feel impacted. He's acting drunk and can't walk. I just saw him a few hours ago and he was fine. I went into the pen to change out their water and he was shutting his eyes and spitting up. I saw a scorpion in his pen and a red ant, too. I've never seen a scorpion here before. I wonder if one of these two bit him and he's having a reaction. Is there anything I can do or just hope he pulls through? I'm so upset. I just got them a few days ago and they were doing so well. I have no idea what happened to him. The other is fine.

The only thing I can suggest is to take him inside, and use a syringe to give him water after the food has all come up. Even if he spits up the water, atleast some of it will go down. Don't try giving him anymore food until he appears to have been feeling better.

Well, I just got back from taking him to the vet. He appears to be impacted. He was tubed with mineral oil- what else can I do?

Thanks I got it. I'm tubing him very small amounts about every hour. He's honestly not looking good. Surgery might be an option. I need to see if I can afford it or not or if he even makes it until the morning.

My chick made it through the night. I really didn't think he was going to. And even better, I just checked on him to find him standing! He's the chick in the back.

When mine acted like that he had swallowed a jagged curve rock and it was lodged in this throat.....I had to reach my finger down his throat...while pushing up the rock.....luckily I got it out....
