Chook attacked by a dog - help please!

Cannot tell you all how great it is to hear your stories and ideas... I was feeling a little alone in the universe before - cant believe I didn't register on here earlier!!

Yes my friend was very upset with herself for not thinking ahead with her dog, if I had known she was bringing the terrier I would have closed my girls coop and all would have been well....oh well, so much for hindsight...

FancyChookLady thanks for your advice...Have just dug through my horse first aid kit and found some Terramycin powder (labeled for use with pinkeye - is that the same stuff??)....Also I have Cetrigen spray which I was considering, but will use the more powerful one first..

Sjisty I will take your adivce and the honey will stop today and we'll start with the Terramycin... I did wonder about the gooeyness of the honey on her feathers....

Big step today - Chicky is out of her cage and wandering around!!! Yay!! She was chatting away to me all morning and kept seeming to look outside (don't know how much I'm anthropomorphising now, but bear with me!) so I took her cage out into the yard and took the top off and she hopped out and started having a good fossick around... She is walking a bit better on her sore leg, she is now taking maybe half weight on it and is able to take a small step forward - wasn't able to do this two days ago...she has now gone for a fossick in all her favourite places, and although she'll go back in her cage soon, it's great to see her mobile!!!

Tell you all what's amazing though, we have three resident dogs here, an Australian cattle dog, a mixed breed working dog and a standard Poodle... They are all very well chook trained and on the night of the attack when I got my girl free from the terrier and dropped him, the poodle jumped on him like she knew he was doing the wrong thing!
And today with Chicky wandering around the yard, Poodle is taking up a watch position, about 10 yards from Chicky all the time like she's keeping an eye on her.... I wonder if we managed to turn my poodle into a chicken guard.....lol :)

Oh it sounds like she's beginning to feel better. Yay!

Oh yes that chicken I had in Israel was a fighter, she was just lovely. Couldn't bring her back to NZ with us though when we moved, you can't import live birds anymore, so we had to find her a new home. Unfortunately like most animals that leave my own care poor Nessie didn't last long. At least I know she had the best life she could with me for as long as I could give it to her, and she also convinced several people, including our vet's in Israel to stop eating chicken.

Good to hear that she's perked up . Terramycin for pink eye, that's the one. If you think she is in substantial pain, it wouldn't hurt to give her some baby aspirin or arnica. But if you are a horse owner, then I'm sure you are aware that when it comes to leg injuries, it's not very wise to mask the pain for fear of them over using it. Cetrigen spray is something everyone should have in their first aid box, I'm sure the US have an equivalent product. As you know, it's not easy to get antibiotics in Aus, and Terramycin ( pink eye ) spray is one of the few obtainable over the counter. I have used on horses, goats, chickens and even the dog.

Thanks everyone! Fancychooklady, She got Terramycin powder on yesterday afternoon before bed and has been out and about again today... Although not as noisy as yesterday, and her appetite isn't back to normal, she is eating well considering her limited exercise and seems happy enough to do her thing, :)
There is a photo of her having a sunbath this morning, hope I attached it right :)

My mum found me some oregano oil so that is in her water now too... Should I be getting it into her with an eye dropper though? To make sure it's ingested??

Raewhitewolf your Nessie sounds like a miracle chicken! I will be spreading her story far and wide :)

Sue, I really hope so....she's going to be under stringent care for the next two weeks or so, to make sure, before we contemplate getting her a friend.... Unless she starts to stress...
