Cannot tell you all how great it is to hear your stories and ideas... I was feeling a little alone in the universe before - cant believe I didn't register on here earlier!!
Yes my friend was very upset with herself for not thinking ahead with her dog, if I had known she was bringing the terrier I would have closed my girls coop and all would have been well....oh well, so much for hindsight...
FancyChookLady thanks for your advice...Have just dug through my horse first aid kit and found some Terramycin powder (labeled for use with pinkeye - is that the same stuff??)....Also I have Cetrigen spray which I was considering, but will use the more powerful one first..
Sjisty I will take your adivce and the honey will stop today and we'll start with the Terramycin... I did wonder about the gooeyness of the honey on her feathers....
Big step today - Chicky is out of her cage and wandering around!!! Yay!! She was chatting away to me all morning and kept seeming to look outside (don't know how much I'm anthropomorphising now, but bear with me!) so I took her cage out into the yard and took the top off and she hopped out and started having a good fossick around... She is walking a bit better on her sore leg, she is now taking maybe half weight on it and is able to take a small step forward - wasn't able to do this two days ago...she has now gone for a fossick in all her favourite places, and although she'll go back in her cage soon, it's great to see her mobile!!!
Tell you all what's amazing though, we have three resident dogs here, an Australian cattle dog, a mixed breed working dog and a standard Poodle... They are all very well chook trained and on the night of the attack when I got my girl free from the terrier and dropped him, the poodle jumped on him like she knew he was doing the wrong thing!
And today with Chicky wandering around the yard, Poodle is taking up a watch position, about 10 yards from Chicky all the time like she's keeping an eye on her.... I wonder if we managed to turn my poodle into a chicken guard.....lol
