Anyone just chop their heads off on a block of wood? If so, how do you restrain them? Would it be best to do it similar as if you were castrating them?

On My chop block I put two nails(4" spiral nails) about an inch apart and pound them in till they are about 1.5" still sticking out!

Then i hold chicken by feet and put head between the nails and pull a bit , helps to keep them there. I have used both a ax for cutting or a machete.

Hope this helps?

That's what I do. If you put the nails at the very edge of the block, you can position a bucket underneath to catch the severed head as it falls

My husband has a nail on the chopping block and makes a nuce(sp?) with a shoe string. Ties the string around The nail and of course the nuce around his neck, then pulls his feet to stretch the neck a little. RIgh by his chopping block he has one of those orange traffic cone and slips the bird right into it after the head is cut off and it thrashes in that. No mess, no bruising. Works well for us.
