Christmas 2014 Hatch-a-Long (12-25-14)

Today is day 17!! I've got to candle and prepare for lockdown!

Haha, I just did that. All 20 eggs from last weeks candling are still kicking. I have what appears to be a double yolker hatching on what happens to be one of the actors from The Walking Deads (great show) birthdays. Although, I have ready seemed to name a chick Dixon (last name of the character) from last hatch, oh well. If it hatched I'll think of a name :p

Enough about me, how many eggs does everyone have in lockdown?

Fun! I've heard about that show but never watched it. Although I like the idea of naming chicks after characters.

Looks like all 42 will be going into lock down tonight

But I have someone who I know asked me if I was thinking about selling any to let her know.... I'm glad they all made it this far (Or I think they did, a few are so big and the eggs are a little dark so it is hard to see anything move) but that is a lot.

I don't know if I am more excited for my eggs to hatch, or for that show to hurry and come back on.

I have 22 in lockdown as of a couple hours ago. I lined them all up nicely in the bator and they have already rolled themselves all around.

Good evening everyone. Just checking in to see how everyone is doing.
I have some exciting news. Lockdown has begun! (at least for us) There are eleven eggs in lockdown! Although, it would seem at least one of the chicks is ready to hatch now. I had just candled and turned all the eggs for the last time, when I left to get some more water to up the humidity. Upon my return one of the eggs is wiggling hard, as if there is a dance party going on inside the egg. LOL!
However, I am concerned for two of the eggs. For the most part all the eggs are almost completely dark except for the air sack. All, that is, except two. There is lots of activity inside the eggs, but the shadows are still only taking up about half the egg. They are marked and I will just have to keep a close watch on them. I will probably give them a few extra days in lockdown. Here's hoping that they are just late bloomers.

Anything going on yet? I know it's early but.....

Honestly, I'm kind of leaning toward the show :lau. My whole flock outside has TWD charecters nicknames. Glad to see another TWD fan on BYC :). Good luck with your hatch

Here's hoping they all turn out great. I'm a homeschooler, too, by the way. Good for you having your kids make incubators. I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to try that. I'd be interested to hear what materials they are using, though... and how that all turns out later.

Thanks, homeschooling is awesome and opens up so many opportunities that wouldn't necessarily be there otherwise. Aside from a styrofoam cooler and a thermo/higrometer, most of the items are household items we have lying around. If you send me a message I can upload some pictures of the items we use.

Yes!

Just checked on the eggs... and... we have our first external pip! Strangely, it is not the egg that was rocking and rolling all over the place last night. That one is still quite active, it just hasn't broken through yet. The chick a few inches away is pipped and peeping. It is so exciting seeing the tip of the beak knocking on the shell. *knock, knock, knock* *knock, knock, knock*

Had one quitter when candling before locking down tonight. So that makes 16. Took me a minute to get the humidity up, but everything is all good now. Will check in the morning and see how everything is going. Think I may have a few early birds in the bunch.
