Christmas Fabrics Block of The Month Swap- August- CLOSED!!!

Thank you! Glad you liked it and the whole quilt idea is what I did with the present for my son's girlfriend, the dresdens with the raspberry and lime colors on white? I found two fat quarters of one of the darker raspberry's at joann's and sashed between my rows, made the whole thing pop, I think it's gorgeous. Needs batting and backing and it's done. I might quilt some beside the dresdens like stright down the rows between the plates but I am not going to quilt over the plates, they already have been decorative stitched to sew them down (I flipped them with interfacing) so I think that's enough, I'll take a picture with the sashing when I get my batteries back and charged from DS, he has them in his playstation controls right now. But, long answer, yes they make a pretty quilt and I terribly like them!! I was gonna make some grandmother's fans too, basically half dresdens but I need to think a bit about making the half circle and the piecs closet to the edge bigger with a seam allowance because they go right to the edge of the work, those are pretty too. I also cut a pattern for that wagon wheel looking round design I never could find a pattern for so I'll play around with that a bit too....yep, I like the round ones pretty good, even that drunkards' path and the wedding ring appeal to me....backward I guess!!

You are going to do this for Sept. too, right Darlene?!?! I want to make sure I have enough squares from my BYC buddies for a nice sized Christmas throw.

..SE..that quilt sounds very pretty (sons girlfriend)..she must be special!!

I have a scrap drunkards path on my bed now..When we lived in Fl. we went fishing on the coast a lot..when I got too much sun I would work on it..I think every block was made that way..it is "the fishing quilt"..some can't figure that out..the pattern/look has nothing to do with fishing. I also made a fan for my youngest daughter from the fan..plums/navies..it was one of the easier quilts I have made..

..I like all quilts!!!

Since we're talking about a Dresden Plate quilt, here's a picture of one my Aunt pieced. I could never manage it, or all that curved binding either! But they sure are pretty. I think if I ever did try to make one, I'd go with scrappy fabrics and make look really old fashioned.

edited to add: this was just off the longarm, before binding so the edges look funny.

Here here Ladies!!!
"I'd much rather grow older than die young" has been my Grandmothers favorite quote...she is now 100 and still witty. In her day she was quite the quilter....she no longer quilts because of the arthritis in her hands, but she is a great coach. She says that life slows down again when you hit 90.

Beautiful quilt Calicokat!!! Your aunt must be very patient!

The October/November issue of Quilt magazine has a pretty Dresden plate pattern that could be adapted to a fan block...only three blades per quarter. Had a nice counter block of pinwheels that makes a nice counter border.

Also the cover has a neat bear paw with a great border to use up all our fall color scraps.

I bought that mag as well. Lots to love in it.
