My girls are kept in a 4'x10' tractor with attached roosting and nesting areas...so they get moved to fresh foraging grounds daily. But I never realized how important dried up, dusty, sneeze-inducing hay was, until a friend of mine gave me a couple of bales of hay from his fields. I placed a small amount of hay in the run area of their tractor early Saturday morning and sprinkled some grains in it so they could have "real" finds during their hunt. When they came down from their roosting area that morning, their eyes lit up like kids at Christmas, they ran for the hay, and immediately started scratching.
That is when I decided there was nothing better than a quiet morning, sipping coffee, watching your chickens...ahh...life is good

Chickens in the sun.... (that should be a song!)

Thanks! I have become a major "Stagecoach Tractor" fan since mine was delivered a few weeks ago. I am now trying to figure out how many Stagecoaches I can fit on 3 acres and still have room to move them around

They do love their hay...and I apparently love my girls because the hay irritates my allergies, but I don't care...they'll keep getting a fresh supply every morning from now on.
