Hi all! I have a two week old Silver Polish chick who seriously gets pasty butt every other day. I have spent more time wiping this chicks behind than I care to admit. And it is hardened poo every time. This is my second batch of chicks and I have four others, one of which is also a Polish, but no one else has this problem. I even trimmed fuzz away from her behind hoping it would help, and it has not. I have also done the olive oil this, and still no help. Any suggestions? They are only eating starter feed at this point, and otherwise, she is healthy.

Sometimes it can be that's they are too warm, so it dries before it falls off, but you said it was a polish chick, so that might explain it, I can say that I'm polish

Thanks! We are Polish too (hence, our foray into Polish hens!) She gets it literally every day. I guess I will just wipe her but until she grows in real feathers, but will this continue into adulthood? I am a little concerned about it being a defect of some sort.

Some chicks have a watery bowel product by default. She may very well retain this trait into adulthood. I have a four-year old Sussex that had the squirts from day one, and still does. Only once in a great while will she produce a semi-solid product.

My hens has always drunk a lot of water, probably compensating for a defect of some sort. Does you Polish chick spend more time at the water than the others? It would be a sign she has runny poop due to this reason.

As far as defects, there are more hatchery chicks out there that have these minor defects than don't. Hatcheries don't spend a lot of time polishing the genetics for a superior animal.
